About Familiar Surroundings Home Care
Old-Fashioned Values for Today’s Home Care Needs
Familiar Surroundings Home Care is a family- and veteran-owned agency providing non-medical home care throughout the Bay Area. Since 2010, we’ve believed good care should feel personal, responsive and focused on the people who need it, not just the business behind it.

Our Story
Home Care Has Always Been Personal to Us
Long before she started Familiar Surroundings Home Care, Owner Laura Wentling was already working in home care. She began at 18, starting on call before moving into staffing and management.
As she gained experience, she also saw what she wanted to do differently. She wanted home care to feel less corporate and more focused on the people who needed help.
So, in 2010, she started Familiar Surroundings Home Care.
Today, the company is truly a family operation. Laura’s husband, a veteran and retired police officer, works alongside her, and all three of their children are part of the business. Over the years, even members of the previous generation have been involved.
Through that growth, one question has continued to guide the way we care for our clients:
Would we want this person caring for someone in our own family?
It’s a simple standard, but it’s an important one. We want every family we serve to receive the same level of care, respect and attention we’d expect for our own.
Our Credentials
Meet Our Certified Senior Advisor
Familiar Surroundings Home Care is a proud member of the Home Care Association of America and California Association for Health Services at Home, which provides training and education on best practices and changes to the home care industry so that we can best serve our families and clients.
Owner Laura Wentling is a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®. The credential covers the health, financial, social and legal sides of aging, not just care scheduling.
For the families we serve, that means the person helping you plan understands the whole picture. You get a guide for the entire aging journey, not only a source of caregivers.

My mother has late stage Alzheimer’s and we needed extra support and care for her while she recovered from a broken hip and surgery. Her caregivers, Angie and Remedios, have been very professional and so wonderful. I’ve dealt with other care agencies and this is the best experience I’ve had yet. I’m very happy and would highly recommend.

Both of my parents have Dementia. I just signed up to have Familiar Surroundings take them on walks three times a week. The paperwork was easy. The staff was great during the process. After the first walk, I saw my mother smile for the first time in months. The staff knows how to talk to and deal with people with Dementia. I can't be more thrilled. Thank you for what you do.

Familiar surroundings caregivers have been caring for me the last six weeks since I broke my arm-the arm of my dominant hand. Every caregiver has been terrific. They are well trained and responsive, always helpful and kind.
I want to single out two caregivers for recognition, Rosalia (Yolanda) Carpenter and Martha, for exceptional care and service.

The managers and staff were amazing when it came to communicating with me and my family. Everything felt easy, the caregivers were wonderful to work with and the cost was very similar to other places we looked at using (and the others didn’t have as friendly staff). Very thankful they assisted us during a more stressful time. I highly recommend reaching out if you are looking for a great care team.

When my husband’s family needed help and advice on how to care for his grandma’s day to day needs I reached to the office of familiar surroundings. They listed out with a lot of details all the things they could provide and what insurance they accepted. They were very straight forward and answered all my questions. The office staff was kind and understanding and I am lucky to have found such a great place to help our family! I highly recommend reaching out if you need anything for your loved ones! They make it easy and simple for the family members to support their loves ones!

Thriving at Home
The Power of Familiar Surroundings
THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS FOR ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA CARE.
When memory and cognitive function change, the world can become confusing. Familiar people, routines and surroundings can provide an important sense of comfort.
That belief is at the heart of our name, Familiar Surroundings Home Care. We believe there’s value in helping people remain in the home they know, surrounded by the routines, memories and comforts that are already part of their everyday lives.

How It Works
Our Personalized Care Process
Getting started with home care doesn’t have to be complicated. It can start with a simple phone call. We’ll take the time to understand what’s happening, what kind of help is needed and how we can best support you or your loved one. From there, we’ll create a care plan based on those needs, with the flexibility to adjust as they change over time.
Free In-Home Assessment
We meet with you and your loved ones to talk through your needs, answer questions and learn what kind of support would be most helpful. Our in-home assessment is free, and there’s no pressure to make a decision on the spot.
Personalized Care Plan
Based on that conversation, we develop a care plan and match you with a caregiver whose experience and availability fit your current needs. As those needs change, the plan can change with them.
Ongoing Support
Our involvement doesn’t end once care begins. We stay in communication with clients, families and caregivers so we can address concerns and make adjustments as needed.
